About Hidden Camera Detector
The original hidden camera detection app — and the one that started the category.
Hidden Camera Detector was first released in 2012 by Logan Security Consulting, LLC. Over more than a decade it has grown to over 2 million downloads and earned coverage from Forbes, Fox News, and Fodor's. At its peak it reached #1 in Utilities and #3 among all paid apps on the U.S. App Store. Its detection methods are built on patented technology (U.S. Patent No. 12,175,745 B2), developed across consumer and enterprise security products.
A real security company behind the app
Logan Security Consulting, LLC has specialized in covert and standard camera systems since 2001 — more than a decade before the app itself. Hidden Camera Detector is the product of that hands‑on security work, not a generic app studio's imitation. Many copycats now borrow similar names and icons, but apps built without real‑world security experience can only mimic the surface — they can't reproduce the expertise underneath. The original is the one published by Logan Security Consulting.
For more than twenty years, the company has worked on both sides of covert surveillance — helping consumers, businesses, private security, and law enforcement find hidden devices, and professionally deploying and searching for them. That dual expertise is the point: much as radar manufacturers also offer the detectors that keep their own technology in fair use, a detector built by the people who deploy these devices knows exactly what to look for — something an outside app studio can't replicate.
What the app does
Hidden Camera Detector brings multiple detection methods together in one consumer app, so you can check a space several different ways:
- Bluetooth & tracker scan — find nearby Bluetooth devices and supported trackers, identified by name where possible, with live signal strength to help you locate them.
- Wi‑Fi / network scan — list devices connected to the local network and identify many cameras and devices by name and type.
- AI image recognition — photograph a suspicious object and compare it with known spy cameras.
- Lens & IR reflection detector — scan a room live for the reflection of a camera lens.
Why people use it
- Checking a hotel room, vacation rental, or Airbnb for hidden cameras.
- Scanning a changing room, restroom, or office for recording devices.
- Looking for Bluetooth trackers or tags that keep appearing nearby.
Hidden Camera Detector gives you multiple practical ways to check a space and investigate suspicious devices with greater confidence.
Continuously improved since 2012
Being the original doesn't mean standing still. Since its launch in July 2012, Hidden Camera Detector has shipped new versions year after year — it is now in its eighth major generation. Across those updates it grew from a lens‑reflection detector into a full multi‑method tool, adding Wi‑Fi/network scanning, Bluetooth and tracker detection, and AI image recognition, alongside continual refinements to accuracy and usability.
Selected version milestones: v1.0 (2012) · v2 (2016–2017) · v3 (2019) · v4–v5 (2020–2023) · v7 (2024) · v8 (2025) · v8.4 (September 2026). More than a decade of active, ongoing development — the opposite of an app that was built once and left to go stale.
